When a headache strikes, a lot of people automatically reach for painkillers, but this is a risky habit that can seriously harm your kidneys and general health. Additionally, you should be aware that acupressure is one of the many alternative headache relief techniques available. Acupressure is a traditional massage technique that relies on applying pressure to specific body points to relieve pain.
Although it is a form of acupuncture and reflexology, acupressure doesn’t require medical knowledge. To perform it, sit in a comfortable position, then apply soft pressure and rub the points you can see below in circular motion for 30 seconds to a minute. The headaches usually disappear between 5-10 minutes afterwards, although it may take more time at the beginning. Here are the acupressure points you need to stimulate in order to relieve headaches:
1. Yintang point
The Yintang point, also known as the third eye point, is located between the eyebrows on the area where the bridge of the nose goes to the front. The same point can also eliminate eye fatigue.
2. Zhu Zan point
This point lies at the base of the inner edge of the eyebrows. Massaging this spot can also relieve nasal secretion and improve visual acuity.
3. Yingxiang point
This point is located on both sides of the nostrils in eye height. Find the dimple below the cheekbones and massage it to relive headaches, toothache and stress.
4. Tian Zhu points
The Tian Zhu points lie on the middle part of the back of the head between the ear and at the beginning of the spinal column. Massaging these points can relieve headaches, eye and ear pain, nasal congestion and migraines.
5. Shuai Gu points
These points can be found 2-3 cm. from the beginning of the hairline around the temples. They are lying in small pits – apply pressure to this area to relieve your headaches and eye fatigue as well.
