1. Symptoms of asthma
Asthma symptoms could develop gradually and if not treated could become life threatening. Some of these symptoms include coughing ,stiffness of chest, whistling sound when exhaling, difficulty in breathing. Symptoms associated with asthma could worsen and graduate into asthma attacks.
An asthma attack is experienced by people suffering from asthma, when an asthma attack occurs, victim experience inflammation in their airways, the airways contract and there is increased production of mucus causing a narrowing of the air tube. Symptoms that accompany an asthma attack include cough, difficulty in breathing as a result of a narrowed airtube and wheezing.
2. Types of asthma
The different types of asthma are classified based on their triggers and the onset of symptoms. They include;
- Child onset asthma: This is the type of asthma that begins at childhood. This is mainly as a result of the child’s genetic makeup and is mostly triggered by allergies.
- Adult onset asthma: A person is said to have adult onset asthma when symptoms develop after the age of 20. Symptoms of this type of asthma also occur as a result of allergies, but could also be as a result of certain chemicals or medication.
- Exercise induced asthma: This type of asthma is associated with exercise. Symptoms are normally experienced during or after exercise.
- Occupational asthma: This type of asthma is one in which asthma symptoms are triggered by the type his/her working environment.
3. Treatment of asthma
Treatment of asthma requires proper identification of symptoms trigger and taking proper treatments to reduce or prevent symptoms. These treatments include;
- Long term medication, long term medications are taken daily to prevent the occurrence of these symptoms.
- Short term medication, this type of medication is just for short term relief. It is mostly taken by people who do not frequently have symptoms. This medication is taken once a victim begins to experience symptoms.
