Wheezing is a high-pitched, whistling sound that occurs when breathing through narrowed or partially blocked airways. This sound is usually more noticeable while exhaling and indicates restricted airflow in the respiratory tract.
When the airways are obstructed, breathing becomes difficult and may be accompanied by a feeling of tightness in the chest. In some cases, reduced oxygen levels can also cause lightheadedness or dizziness.
Several factors can contribute to wheezing, including persistent cold or cough, inhalation of foreign particles, irritation or tightening of the vocal cords, respiratory infections, smoking, acid reflux, exposure to pollen or pollution, and various allergies.
Although wheezing itself is not a disease, it is often a symptom of underlying respiratory conditions such as asthma, bronchitis, pulmonary edema, allergic reactions, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), vocal cord dysfunction, or even stress-related breathing issues.
If wheezing is left untreated, it can interfere with daily activities, disturb sleep, and eventually lower overall quality of life, leaving you feeling exhausted and irritable.
Anyone experiencing frequent or severe wheezing should consult a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Along with medical care, certain natural home remedies may help ease symptoms and support better breathing when used correctly.
