Red Lines on the Skin Can Be a Sign of Blood Poisoning, Recognize the Sign!

Sepsis is a potentially fatal condition caused by the body's reaction to infection. Pediatric infectious disease specialist at the Cleveland Clinic Frank Esper Sepsis is the most serious form of infection. Blood poisoning occurs if the infection is so severe that it spreads throughout the body. The result can kill the kidneys, the heart stops working and heart problems.

A mother's instincts to save her baby from medical conditions that can be potentially fatal. Alexandra Ruddy, who took a photo of his son's arm after swimming in the sea, felt that something was wrong with the red lines on his child's arms and elbows.

Ruddy's instincts led him to immediately bring his eight-year-old son to the doctor. He was proven right. The doctor's diagnosis revealed that his son had sepsis or blood poisoning.

"The doctor praised me for recognizing him and bringing him to the doctor immediately. Blood poisoning / sepsis cannot be left in place for several days before receiving medical treatment," he said as published by Health.

Recognize sepsis

Sepsis is a potentially fatal condition caused by the body's reaction to infection. His son had an open wound when he fell a few days before. There are no signs of infection in the wound except the red line on the arm.

"Sepsis is the most serious form of infection," a specialist in infectious diseases at the Cleveland Clinic's Frank Esper told Health.

As a result of sepsis

Blood poisoning occurs if the infection is so severe that it spreads throughout the body. The result can kill the kidneys, the heart stops working and heart problems. That is why after the symptoms of sepsis appear, it is necessary to immediately obtain medical treatment. Some of the symptoms of sepsis are mental decline, fever and fatigue.

Esper explains the red mark can appear if there is an infection. This sign spreads through the lymph nodes to other parts of the body. "The treatment is to immediately give antibiotics," Esper said.

Ruddy wrote his son got better after taking antibiotics. But he warned parents not to wait when they saw the red mark around the wound. "If there is a red mark from a wound that extends along the vein, immediately go to the doctor," Alexandra wrote on her social media page.

Dr. Esper said there was a simple way to track whether the redness around the wound spreads that indicates infection. Mark around the reddish wound with a marker and see if the redness exceeds the mark the next day.

"If you have used antibiotics and the redness still exceeds that mark, it means that the antibiotics are given wrong or the wound needs stronger antibiotics," he said.
