8 Home Remedies to Get Rid of Ingrown Hairs and Razor Bumps

Have you ever had a skin growth with hair inside? It's just so uncomfortable and annoying, right? We refer to it as an ingrown hair. Without erupting from the skin, the hair curls and grows there. It really irritates me. It typically occurs a few days after shaving. One of the causes is thick, dead skin that prevents hair from growing freely. Really, it's quite problematic.

But we don’t have to worry too much. These are some of the tips to get rid of ingrown hair:

Honey and Salt scrub

Make a mixture of ½ cup of honey and ½ cup of sea salt and rub it gently on the skin while taking a shower. It won’t twitch or hurt. Once applied, we should use a mild, non-irritating soap and water mixture to rinse it off.

Avocado, Almond and Oatmeal Scrub
This acts as a moisturizer. We should use it especially if the skin is dry and needs moisturizing. It’s a mixture of 1 mashed avocado, 1/3 cup of ground almonds and a ¾-1 cup of ground oatmeal. Massage it gently on the skin. Then, we can rinse it off with water.

Removing the Hair safely
This can be a bit of a painful process. First, we need to disinfect the tweezers by soaking it in alcohol. Then, exfoliate the skin formed around the ingrown hair. Once the dead skin is removed, we should dab the skin with running hot water. This will make the skin soft. We are now ready to grasp the hair and pull it with the tweezers. It may be a bit painful but once pulled off, we should immediately rinse the spot, and dab it with coconut oil. It’ll ease the irritation a lot.

Moisturization
Even if the skin is not dry, we should invest in some moisturizers and keep the skin moist. Dry skin is always a bit irritating, isn’t it? Moisturizing will also help the ingrown hair to be pushed out and relieve some irritation. Coconut oil is a good moisturizer, but any would do.

A mix of Honey and Aspirin
This is an odd mixture but it’s extremely helpful for ingrown hair. Aspirin has salicylic acid which helps to moisturize the skin and shed more dead skin. How do you make this mixture? Crush three tablets of aspirin and mix it with 1 tsp of honey. Apply the paste on the affected area and let it sit for 10 minutes. Use warm water to rinse it off.

Tree Tea oil
Tree tea oil is an herbal product that is infused with antiseptic properties. It’s great for reducing inflammation and the pain due to ingrown hair. We should apply this oil with a cotton swab two times a day.

A Paste of Baking Soda
We can slowly bring out the ingrown hair by using a paste of baking soda. Just add some baking soda in water and make a thick paste out of it. Apply it on the skin in circular motion. We can rinse it off with some water and finally, apply coconut oil to moisturize the skin and ease the irritation. It’ll make sure the pores are not getting plugged.

Exfoliation
Before shaving, make sure you exfoliate the skin 1-2 days earlier. This helps the hair to grow freely. We could use an exfoliating glove or soap for exfoliation purposes.

It’s a bit of a hard work, but if you follow these steps, the painful bumps after shaving will go away. Share these tips with your friends and have a happy skin life.
